Hi, I’m Emily.

Virtual psychotherapy for adults across Ontario

I’m a warm, thoughtful, and relational therapist. I listen closely - not only to what is being said, but also to what may be difficult to say, what has been repeatedly misunderstood, or what has had to be set aside in order to keep going.

I believe people make more sense when we understand them in the context of the lives they have lived. Our relationships, identities, bodies, responsibilities, communities, and social conditions all shape how we experience ourselves and the world around us.

What I bring to the work

I bring curiosity, honesty, humour, and a willingness to stay with complexity.

I will not assume that I know you better than you know yourself. At the same time, therapy with me is not passive. I listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, offer reflections, and help us notice connections that may not have been visible before.

I value therapy that feels human. We can think deeply without becoming overly clinical, take pain seriously without treating you as fragile, and acknowledge what has happened without reducing you to what you have survived.

There is room for grief, anger, uncertainty, contradiction, laughter, silence, and the parts of your experience that do not fit neatly into a single explanation.

My Approach

My work is person-centred, relational, trauma-informed, and neuroaffirmative.

I am particularly interested in the ways neurodivergence, trauma, relationships, caregiving, burnout, chronic stress, identity, and larger systems can intersect.

Masking, withdrawal, inconsistency, emotional intensity, or difficulty meeting everyday demands can carry meanings that are easily missed when they are viewed only as symptoms or deficits.

My perspective is informed by both professional education and lived understanding. Formal knowledge matters, but it is not the only kind of knowledge that matters. You bring expertise in your own life that cannot be replaced by a theory, assessment, or professional title.

My role is not to impose a story on your experience. It is to help create the conditions in which your own understanding can become clearer, more trustworthy, and more fully yours.

My Background

My academic background includes counselling psychology, philosophy, bioethics, and equity studies. These areas continue to shape the questions I bring to my work: how we come to understand ourselves, who gets to define what is normal, how power operates within relationships and systems, and what it means to offer care without erasing complexity.

My clinical work is grounded primarily in person-centred and relational psychotherapy. I also draw thoughtfully from trauma-informed, psychodynamic, narrative, somatic, and neuroaffirming perspectives when they are useful and appropriate.

I do not follow a rigid formula. Our work is shaped by who you are, what you are carrying, and what feels meaningful to explore together.

Working together

Finding a therapist is personal. Training and approach matter, but so does whether you feel comfortable, understood, and able to be yourself in the relationship.

A free consultation gives us an opportunity to meet, talk about what is bringing you to therapy, and get a sense of how it feels to speak together.
